Ahead of House Vote, Senator Hassan Statement on Shameful Legislation Undermining Protections for Individuals with Disabilities

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement ahead of a vote in the House of Representatives on backward legislation that would undermine critical protections for individuals who experience disabilities. Senator Hassan spoke out against this legislation last year, and she continues to stand with hundreds of disability rights organizations in opposing the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017.

“Individuals who experience disabilities in New Hampshire and all across our nation have benefited in every facet of life – including at home, at school, and at work – because of the critical civil rights protections provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ADA helps millions of people to be fully included in their communities and to contribute to our economy, and House Republicans’ efforts to undermine that progress is shameful. Instead of stripping individuals who experience disabilities of their rights, we should be working to expand these protections so that we can continue to grow and thrive together.”
