Bipartisan Legislation Cosponsored by Senator Hassan to Make Government More Efficient Signed Into Law

WASHINGTON – President Trump signed into law yesterday bipartisan legislation cosponsored by Senator Maggie Hassan that will help to make the federal government more efficient. The bipartisan Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act would create a more secure, transparent, and efficient data system to help federal agencies better assess the effectiveness of their programs. This legislation was introduced by former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and is based off of recommendations from the bipartisan Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking’s final report.

“Making the federal government more efficient and effective is an area that everyone can agree on,” Senator Hassan said. “This law will help ensure that federal agencies have the systems in place to more accurately evaluate the success of programs while strengthening privacy protections and increasing transparency.”

The Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act requires federal agencies to submit a plan to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to identify and address policy questions relevant to the programs, policies, and regulations of the department or agency. OMB will then consolidate all of these reports into a unified evidence-building plan to help inform decisions.
