New Hampshire Delegation Applauds $44 Million Award for ReGen Valley Tech Hub

(Manchester, NH) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), chair of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the Department of Commerce, and Maggie Hassan (D-NH), alongside Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01), applauded $44 million in federal funding awarded to the ReGen Valley Tech Hub through the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act that Senators Shaheen and Hassan developed and helped get signed into law. The ReGen Valley Consortium, led by Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI), was designated as a Tech Hub by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) in 2023. The funding award will help accelerate Southern New Hampshire’s growth into a global epicenter for the production and distribution of regenerative cells, tissues and organs and help further bolster the nation’s economic and national security.

Shaheen and Pappas joined U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves in Manchester for the announcement. Earlier in the day, Shaheen joined Deputy Secretary Graves, leadership from ARMI and members of the ReGen Valley Consortium for a trolley tour. Photos from both events can be found here

“Today’s announcement further proves Southern New Hampshire’s enormous potential and how the region is poised not only to drive innovation in biofabrication, but to also emerge as a new industrial powerhouse and global competitor,” said Senator Shaheen. “This award to ReGen Valley will enable the creation of more good jobs right here in New Hampshire, the development of the technology that will save lives and help bolster our STEM workforce pipeline. I thank Deputy Secretary Graves for joining me today in Manchester for this exciting announcement.”

“The ReGen Valley Tech Hub and ARMI are making New Hampshire an epicenter for biofabrication innovation and technology, forging critical advances for both our health care and our national security,” said Senator Hassan. “In 2022, I worked to pass into law bipartisan legislation to strengthen our supply chains, lower costs, and build more manufacturing in the United States – and to make projects like the ReGen Valley Tech Hub a reality. With this latest round of federal funding, I look forward to seeing all that ReGen Valley and ARMI will continue to do to strengthen New Hampshire’s workforce and make scientific and technological advances.”

“The pioneering work being undertaken by the ReGen Valley Consortium is driving medical innovation and the future of care,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “From investing in the future of our biofabrication workforce and creating good-paying jobs right here at home to leading advancements in regenerative medicine and therapies, this significant funding will help ensure New Hampshire remains a leader in developing transformative technologies for the region and our country.”

“ReGen Valley Tech Hub firmly places Manchester and New Hampshire as a leader in biofabrication,” said Congressman Pappas. “I supported the CHIPS and Science Act, which established the Tech Hubs program, and this award will further help recruit and retain a biofabrication workforce as well as increase awareness and adoption of regenerative therapies. Thanks to the dedication of the partners and stakeholders in this effort, ReGen Valley Tech Hub is doing state-of-the-art work that will save lives. I will continue to advocate for federal investments in biofabrication, innovation, and domestic manufacturing.”

“The ReGen Valley Tech Hub awards builds on foundational investment by the U.S. Department of Defense. With this place-based funding, the vision to make ReGen Valley the epicenter of biofabrication is becoming real – manufacturing the cells, tissues, and organs that will transform healthcare and save lives across the country and around the world,” said ARMI Executive Director Dean Kamen.

As Chair of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, Shaheen leads efforts to promote American innovation and accelerate long-term sustainable economic growth. Last year, Shaheen, Hassan and Pappas visited ARMI to celebrate the ReGen Valley Consortium’s Tech Hub designation, and prior to that, Shaheen and Hassan hosted Commerce Secretary Raimondo at ARMI following EDA’s selection of Southern New Hampshire’s BioFabrication Cluster as a Build Back Better Regional Challenge (BBBRC) awardee. This separate $44 million award – which Senators Shaheen and Hassan also advocated for – is being used as a down payment to establish Southern New Hampshire’s leading role in regenerative tissue and organ production.
