WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen and Representative Chris Pappas announced a $341,063 grant to Tuftonboro through the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help the town build a new police station. The new, ADA-accessible station will better meet the growing operational needs of the police department, and will include improved staff facilities, a separate entry to ensure privacy and protection for crime victims and witnesses, a secure booking area, more space for evidence and vehicle storage, a secure lobby with a transaction window, and a dedicated administrative area.
“This federal funding will help the Tuftonboro Police meet the needs of their community and provide important upgrades to better support police officers and their work,” Senator Hassan said. “I will continue working to improve public safety in communities across New Hampshire and work to secure the resources that our rural communities need to thrive.”
“The dedicated men and women of the Tuftonboro Police Department answer the call of duty each day to protect their community. It’s crucial these public servants have the equipment and facilities they need to stay safe and effectively serve the public,” said Senator Shaheen. “I’m thrilled to announce this federal funding to support the construction of a new police station that will help officers and staff work and train, support the growing operational needs of the Department and enhance the safety of residents and businesses in the community. I’ll keep fighting for investments our police officers need to perform their jobs and better serve the communities they protect.”
“This funding from USDA Rural Development will assist the Town of Tuftonboro in building a modern, accessible police department that will house administrative staff, provide space for training, and serve as an emergency operations center,” said Representative Pappas. “The Community Facility Disaster Grant will help defray the overall cost and ensure Tuftonboro has the modern public safety infrastructure it needs.”
“We are excited to see this long awaited project come to fruition. This modern facility will better enable us to meet the community’s needs now and into the future,” said Tuftonboro Chief of Police, Andrew Shagoury. “We thank the delegation for their support of law enforcement and public safety.”
