WASHINGTON – In case you missed it, a new report came out showing that Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Bill Cassidy’s (R-LA) No Surprises Act to help ban surprise medical billing prevented nine million surprise medical bills this year.
“For too long, Americans have had to fight hospitals and insurance companies when they received an unexpected medical bill even though they thought they had done everything right by using in-network services. That’s why Senator Cassidy and I teamed up to protect patients and ban this abusive practice. I’m glad that our legislation has prevented more than nine million surprise bills just this year, and I’ll keep working to bring down health care costs,” said Senator Hassan.
Senators Hassan and Cassidy led the effort to address surprise medical billing, and at the end of 2020, passed into law the No Surprises Act. Their legislation went into effect at the beginning of this year.
