WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan today voted to approve the bipartisan Never Forget the Heroes Act – which she cosponsored – to permanently reauthorize funding for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. The bipartisan legislation ensures that 9/11 first responders receive health care coverage for illnesses contracted during their heroic actions on and around the day of the attack. The bipartisan legislation passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives last week, and is now on its way to the President’s desk for a signature.
“On September 11, 2001, while our nation watched in horror as the twin towers collapsed, first responders dove into the wreckage to save their fellow Americans. Their bravery and selflessness that day saved countless lives – and we have a responsibility to support these first responders as they continue to face a litany of health problems. The vote to reauthorize funding for medical care for 9/11 first responders was long overdue, and I am relieved that this measure is now on its way to the President’s desk for signature.”
