Senator Hassan Calls for Substantial Additional Resources to Implement Recommendations of White House Opioid Commission

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today on the report from the White House Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis:

“The White House opioid commission’s report offers a wide range of recommendations – many of which I have long fought for – to combat the opioid crisis that is devastating communities in New Hampshire and across the United States. I call on President Trump to back up his promises to address this crisis by immediately supporting our efforts to provide the substantial additional funding required to implement the report’s recommendations to strengthen prevention, treatment, and recovery options. The report specifically calls on Congress to come together and pass two critical bipartisan bills that I have cosponsored – the STOP Act to combat the illicit flow of fentanyl across our borders and the Prescription Drug Monitoring Act to mandate the use of prescription drug monitoring programs – and I will continue to work with members of both parties to get these bills to the President’s desk. This report reinforces that we know what we need to do in order to help stem – and ultimately reverse – the tide of this deadly epidemic, and now we need the resources to implement these recommendations and help save lives.”
