Senator Hassan Discusses Bipartisan Priorities with Members of the New England Council

WASHINGTON -- Senator Hassan spoke and took questions on recent bipartisan efforts she led in Congress and her upcoming priorities this morning at the New England Council’s Capitol Conversations breakfast. The New England Council is an alliance of regional businesses and organizations, including academic and health institutions, which advocates for federal public policies that will promote economic growth.

“I particularly appreciate the opportunity to convene with all of you given your critical roles in creating good jobs, driving our economy forward – and that of course is all about strengthening our communities, and making sure every American, every New Englander, has the chance to thrive,” said Senator Hassan this morning. “One of the things I always commit to my constituents to do is to keep following their example. My constituents work together all the time. Your colleagues and your businesses do too. People don’t ask if you’re a Democrat or Republican before you come in in the morning and tackle a challenge in the workday. So I think it’s really critically important that we continue to keep that focus in our region and throughout the country. Put aside differences, find common ground, reach across the aisle, and get things done.”

“Senator Hassan has been a tremendous advocate not just for New Hampshire, but for the entire New England region. We’re grateful that she could take the time to meet with our members today to update them on some of the key issues before the Senate and discuss her ongoing work to support economic growth in our region,” said James T. Brett, President & CEO of the New England Council.

During her remarks, Senator Hassan discussed recent bipartisan progress, including funding for the bipartisan infrastructure law and the CHIPS and Science Act that the Senator worked to negotiate and pass into law to lower costs, strengthen supply chains, and outcompete China. She also took questions regarding priorities of the upcoming Congress, her work to support retirees, and the implementation of recently passed laws such as the bipartisan PACT Act, which Senator Hassan and her colleagues on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee developed to address veterans’ toxic exposure.
