Senator Hassan Discusses Strengthening North Country Economy, Expanding Affordable Housing During Virtual Tour of PAK Solutions in Lancaster

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan discussed the importance of strengthening the North Country economy and expanding affordable housing during a virtual tour of PAK Solutions in Lancaster. PAK Solutions is a manufacturer and distributer of flexible packaging products and employs 87 full-time staff members in their Lancaster facility. Learn more here.

“Innovative businesses like PAK Solutions are the backbone of the North Country’s economy – helping create good-paying jobs and investing in communities in this region,” Senator Hassan said. “I will continue working to promote economic opportunity in the North Country and ensure that businesses have the workforce that they need to thrive.”

Senator Hassan led a group of her colleagues in introducing the bipartisan Gateway to Careers Act, which would help support career pathways strategies, which combine work, education, and support services, to help individuals earn recognized postsecondary credentials.

During a discussion with leadership from PAK Solutions, Senator Hassan emphasized the importance of expanding affordable housing for workers.

"There has been a renewed understanding of how tenuous the housing situation is,” Senator Hassan said. “For those of us who have been following it a long time it's been the elephant in the room, but we're now beginning to see an overall attention and support for reinvestment in it.”

“I don't think we're the only manufacturer in the area that is feeling this issue,” replied Robert Roriston, Partner at PAK Solutions. “We could probably achieve scale by combining with other manufacturers to do this.”

Senator Hassan cosponsored two bipartisan bills to expand affordable housing in New Hampshire and across the country by strengthening the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit while continuing investments in affordable housing.
