MANCHESTER - Today, Senator Maggie Hassan spoke at the New Hampshire Summit on Digital Equity for Economic Opportunity, highlighting the importance of expanding broadband connectivity and modernizing public education in helping New Hampshire's students and businesses thrive in the 21st century innovation economy.

The New Hampshire Summit on Digital Equity for Economic Opportunity brought together stakeholders from education, workforce development, philanthropy and more to focus on planning for systemic digital equity.

"Increasing access to broadband and modernizing education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are critical tools in preparing our young people for success in the 21st century economy," Senator Hassan said. "I commend the National Collaborative for Digital Equity for organizing today's summit and for its commitment to building a brighter future for all of our young people. As a member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, I will continue focusing on critical priorities including strengthening STEM education in a robust public school system so that all of our students have the opportunity to reach their full potential. And in my role on the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, I will work to ensure that our businesses have the quality broadband connections and latest technologies necessary to grow and thrive, helping to build an even stronger, more innovative New Hampshire."

As Governor of New Hampshire, Senator Hassan worked to expand broadband access in K-12 public schools throughout New Hampshire through the Education Super Highway and New Hampshire School Connectivity Initiative, which helped more than 25,000 New Hampshire students access high-speed internet last year. One of Senator Hassan's first actions as a U.S. Senator was joining a bipartisan group of colleagues in calling for broadband to be a part of any infrastructure package President Trump considers. As a member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, Senator Hassan voted to approve the MOBILE Now Act, which will remove barriers to wireless broadband deployment, as well as the Developing Innovation and Growing the Internet of Things (DIGIT) ACT to support innovative businesses and consumers.
