WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Maggie Hassan joined Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and members of the American Nurses Association to highlight how the Senate Trumpcare bill allows states to undermine the requirement that insurance companies must cover Essential Health Benefits including maternity care, prescription drugs, and substance use disorder and mental health services.

“Make no mistake – Trumpcare would be a disaster for millions of Americans,” said Senator Maggie Hassan. “Trumpcare allows states to eliminate the requirement that insurance must cover Essential Health Benefits, including maternity care, prescription drugs, and substance use disorder and mental health services. And undermining Essential Health Benefits would be further exacerbated when combined with other dangerous portions of Trumpcare, particularly the massive cuts to the Medicaid program that would hurt children, people with disabilities, seniors in nursing or at-home care, and those struggling with addiction.”

“Senate Republicans want to vote on this legislation as soon as next week – so the clock is ticking,” Senator Hassan added. “We need you all to continue to pick up your phones and contact your elected officials. Share your stories and make clear how Trumpcare would hurt you and your patients.”
