TILTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan and Laura Landerman-Garber of Hollis visited the New Hampshire State Veterans Home today to drop off cards to veterans that were written by Granite Staters as part of the Cards 2 Connect program. Senator Hassan and Landerman-Garber announced the Cards 2 Connect program last month to help spread some joy to New Hampshire veterans who have been unable to see their loved ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Senator Hassan and Landerman-Gaber are encouraging Granite Staters to continue writing cards to New Hampshire veterans, which will be dropped off at VA medical centers in Manchester and White River Junction.

“I want to thank all of the Granite Staters who took the time to a write a card letting veterans know that we’re thinking of them during this challenging time, and I also want to give a huge thank you to Laura Landerman-Garber, who has done an incredible job with this project,” said Senator Hassan. “It was wonderful to have the opportunity to drop off these cards and visit with some of the veterans to thank them for their brave service to our country.”

“It was a true honor to be with Senator Hassan today to present greetings of care and respect to our beloved Warriors at the NH Veterans Home,” said Laura Landerman-Garber. “Meeting several of our treasured Veterans and Staff and seeing their joy as they opened their cards is at the very heart of the Cards2Connect Challenge! The Granite Staters have jumped on board to reach out through beautiful handmade cards, wanting our Veterans to know that we are always thinking of them, especially during these lonelier times of COVID19.  When we feel connected to others, we feel more hopeful and resilient to get through these complex times. Even though we are 6 feet apart, the Granite Staters are always close in heart!”

Granite Staters of all ages can drop off a card at the Hollis Pharmacy or send a card to the following address:

Senator Hassan’s office is partnering with Landerman-Garber on this project due to her years of work on the successful Military Holiday Card Challenge, in which Granite Staters and Americans across the country can send holiday cards to active duty military troops. For her efforts to spread cheer to military members during the holidays, Senator Hassan recognized Landerman-Garber as September 2018’s Granite Stater of the Month
