WASHINGTON –Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today after meeting with President Trump’s nominee to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen:
“During my meeting with Secretary of Homeland Security nominee Kirstjen Nielsen, I expressed the importance of having an experienced leader at the helm of the Department of Homeland Security as we continue working to keep New Hampshire and America safe and secure in the face of a variety of ever-evolving threats at home and abroad. We specifically discussed the need to strengthen counter-terrorism and cyber security efforts, as well as better protect our election infrastructure. Ms. Nielsen and I also discussed the need for strong leadership at the Department to address both the supply and demand side of the opioid crisis that is ravaging New Hampshire and states across the country. I look forward to continuing to examine her record and qualifications throughout the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing process.”
