Senator Hassan Meets with Secretary of Veterans Affairs Nominee David Shulkin

WASHINGTON - Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after meeting with Dr. David Shulkin, President Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs:

"Dr. David Shulkin and I had a constructive meeting today on the need to improve care for our veterans and address long-standing issues at the Department of Veterans Affairs. It is absolutely critical that veterans receive the accessible, high-quality care - including behavioral health and substance misuse treatment - that they need and have earned. As Governor, I focused on supporting our veterans through efforts such as launching Operation VETS Connect to support veteran hiring and giving the state Veterans Home the ability to serve additional veterans, and I look forward to continuing to work with members of both parties in the Senate to honor our commitments to our veterans and their families."
