WHITE RIVER JUNCTION - Today, Senator Maggie Hassan visited the White River Junction VA Medical Center where she heard from the Center's staff about the challenges they face and reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that veterans and their families have access to the support that they need and deserve.
"I appreciated the opportunity to meet with the White River Junction VA Medical Center staff and to hear more about the challenges that they face," said Senator Hassan. "We know that we must do more to fulfill our obligations to those who have bravely sacrificed in defense of our nation, and I will continue to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Secretary Shulkin to ensure that all of our veterans and their families receive the support and services that they need and deserve."
Senator Hassan recently met with Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. David Shulkin and discussed the need to improve care for our veterans and address long-standing issues at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Last month, Senator Hassan joined a group of 54 members of Congress calling on President Trump to exempt the entire VA and all veterans seeking federal jobs from his executive order freezing federal hiring. Senator Hassan and her colleagues wrote that "A hiring freeze at the VA will delay veterans' access to health care and resolution of their disability claims, which for many of our nation's heroes provides a sole source of income to them and their families."
