WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement on President Trump’s meeting and press conference with Vladimir Putin:
“Never did I think we would see the President of the United States blame our own country for attacks by an adversary on the very foundation of our democracy. In his press conference with Vladimir Putin, President Trump repeatedly put the interests of the Russian Federation ahead of those of the United States of America. Thanks to the extraordinary work of our intelligence community, there is no question that Russian agents conducted deliberate and sophisticated cyber-attacks to try to interfere in our 2016 election. If the President of the United States won't defend our country against foreign attacks, then Congress must step in and act. This transcends party, and we must come together across party lines to hold Russia accountable and protect our democracy.”
