WASHINGTON – Planned Parenthood announced today that it will pull out of the Title X program due to the Trump Administration’s gag rule that prohibits medical professionals at Title X health centers from providing full and complete information on reproductive health options to their patients. Title X is a federally-funded program that supports health centers that provide reproductive health care, cancer screenings, and other services. Title X funded centers deliver care to nearly 18,000 Granite Staters annually, and Title X supported Planned Parenthood centers serve 60 percent of those individuals.
“Planned Parenthood’s announcement is a direct result of the Trump Administration putting itself between women and their doctors, and it is unconscionable that the Administration is jeopardizing access to reproductive health care for thousands of Granite Staters,” said Senator Hassan. “I stand with Planned Parenthood, and I will keep fighting to ensure that all women have access to the quality, affordable care that they need.”
Senator Hassan has strongly opposed the Trump Administration’s rule since it was first announced. Senator Hassan and a number of her colleagues raised concerns about the “unconventional and nontransparent” review process for the proposed rule, and earlier this year, Senator Hassan delivered a speech on the Senate floor urging the Administration to reverse course and protect the well-being of women.
