Senator Hassan Statement Ahead of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan released a statement ahead of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 18:

“Every year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Americans take time to reflect on Dr. King’s mission to ensure that our country lives up to our ideals of freedom, equality, and dignity for all,” Senator Hassan said. “Over the last year, people of all races, ages, and backgrounds gathered peacefully in order to fight for these ideals and speak out about the systemic racism that has persisted in this country for generations. It is clear that Dr. King’s work – and that of so many other civil rights leaders, including the late-John Lewis – remains unfinished. Amid this challenging and divisive time in our country’s history, we must draw on the strength of American heroes like Dr. King who knew how much we could achieve if we came together and recommitted to our shared values.”
