Senator Hassan Statement Ahead of the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade Decision

NEW HAMPSHIRE - U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan released the below statement ahead of the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

“Fifty years ago, women rejoiced in the Supreme Court’s decision that enshrined into law women's reproductive freedom. Yet today, we face a far more solemn anniversary as a radical, extremist majority on the Supreme Court has taken away a woman's most fundamental freedom. More troublingly, we know that this is not the final objective of anti-choice extremists, who will do everything they can to ban abortion nationwide.

“On this anniversary, I stand with Americans everywhere in the fight to protect a woman’s bodily autonomy and to ensure that women have a full and equal place in our democracy.”

Senator Hassan has been a leader in standing up for women’s reproductive freedoms and an outspoken advocate on the dangerous consequences of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe. Last year, she worked with New Hampshire reproductive rights leaders, including leading a press conference with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, to focus on the need to protect a woman’s basic autonomy.  She also stood up against the state’s decision to defund Planned Parenthood. Senator Hassan has also been a leader in the fight to protect Title X family planning centers. Last year, Senator Hassan joined Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra in Manchester for a meeting with New Hampshire family planning providers amid continued attacks from state and Congressional Republicans.
