Senator Hassan Statement Following Her Vote on the For the People Act

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after voting in favor of the For the People Act:

“Granite Staters know how sacred our democracy is. Our state is not just First In The Nation, it also has some of the most well-informed and engaged citizens in the country who understand the importance of protecting the integrity of our elections. Yet, in New Hampshire and across the country, we’ve seen how the corrupting influence of special interest money has caused Americans to lose faith in our elections. Voters have seen how billionaires have influenced our elections, and in turn prevented action on pressing issues such as climate change and the high cost of prescription drugs.

“The For the People Act could be a big step forward in stopping billionaires from buying elections and strengthening our democracy – I am deeply disappointed that Senator Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans blocked this important bill.”
