Senator Hassan Statement in Recognition of LGBTQ Pride Month

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement in recognition of LGBTQ Pride Month:

“This Pride Month, we celebrate the efforts of countless LGBTQ Granite Staters and Americans who have fought for full equality in our society and the progress that has been made as a result. We have come a long way toward ensuring that everyone can fully participate in the civic and economic life of our communities, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, but there is still much more work to do. Pride Month is a time to recommit to standing up against the injustice that the LGBTQ community still experiences, and I will continue to work with members of both parties in the Senate to advance LGBTQ equality, protect hard-fought progress, and to hold the Trump Administration accountable for its shameful record of undermining existing anti-discrimination measures.”

Last month, Senator Hassan joined her colleagues in reintroducing historic, comprehensive federal legislation to ban discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans. The Equality Act of 2017 would ensure full federal non-discrimination equality by adding sexual orientation and gender identity to other protected classes, such as race or religion, in existing federal laws.
