WASHINGTON - Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement on the Department of Justice's appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel:

"It is critical that we get answers about Russia's interference in the 2016 election and any potential connections to President Trump's associates, and I am encouraged that the Department of Justice has appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel. Now, it is imperative that we ensure that Mueller is given true independence and the resources he needs to follow the facts wherever they may lead."
