Senator Hassan Statement on Congressman Mike Pompeo Confirmation Vote

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after voting to confirm CIA Director nominee Congressman Mike Pompeo:

"As a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Congressman Mike Pompeo has anunderstanding of and respect for the work of the intelligence community. Rep. Pompeo is cognizant of the evolving threats America faces, and I was impressed by his willingness in his confirmation hearing to break with President Trump on the need to check Russia's aggression. While I have some concerns about Rep. Pompeo's record as a Member of the House of Representatives, on the whole, I believe that he has the necessary experience to serve as Director of the CIA. I will work to ensure that we provide the CIA and the intelligence community with the resources and support they need to keep us safe, while also exercising strong oversight over intelligence activities."
