Senator Hassan Statement on Dangerous House Bill that Undermines Protections for Americans with Disabilities

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee advanced the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017 (H.R. 620), which would undermine a number of protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act:

“I am deeply troubled that Republicans in the House of Representatives have pushed forward a bill that would drastically undermine the rights of Granite Staters and Americans who experience disabilities to be fully included in our communities and to contribute to our economy. The Americans with Disabilities Act has made a difference in the lives of countless Granite Staters and Americans who experience disabilities, and it is essential that we work to build on the progress we have made – not revert to the days where we marginalize some of our most vulnerable people. I stand with the more than 230 disability rights organizations in opposing the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017, and I will continue working to build a stronger, more inclusive America where all of our people – regardless of personal circumstance – have the opportunity to be fully included in our society and our way of life.”
