Senator Hassan Statement on New Futures' Report Detailing Economic Impact of Alcohol and Drug Misuse
CONCORD - Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after New Futures announced that the cost of alcohol and drug misuse on the New Hampshire economy was more than $2.36 billion in 2014:
"The report released today by New Futures on the economic impact of alcohol and drug misuse is truly staggering, underscoring the need for continued and urgent action to help save lives and build a healthier, more productive workforce. The economic impact of the substance misuse crisis is part of the reason that the business community came together to support New Hampshire's bipartisan Medicaid expansion plan, which provides coverage that includes substance use disorder and behavioral health services to more than 50,000 Granite Staters. Instead of passing Trumpcare, which would dramatically hurt our efforts to combat this crisis by ending Medicaid expansion, drastically cutting the traditional Medicaid program, and undermining the requirement that insurance companies cover substance use disorder treatment, we need to build on our existing efforts to stem the tide of this epidemic that is devastating our people, businesses, and economy."
