Senator Hassan Statement on New Hampshire DOJ Lawsuit Against Purdue Pharma

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after the New Hampshire Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the maker of OxyContin, Purdue Pharma, related to deceptive marketing practices of opioid products:

“The role that drug makers have played in contributing to the heroin, fentanyl, and opioid crisis that is devastating communities in New Hampshire and states across the country is abundantly clear. Through improper marketing of prescription opioids, drug makers have long been running a campaign of deception to mask how addictive these products really are. Despite companies being fined, these issues continue to persist, and it is time for real change to reverse the tide of this horrific epidemic that stems in large part from the misuse and abuse of prescription opioids. I was proud to support the New Hampshire Department of Justice’s investigation into claims regarding Purdue’s fraudulent marketing of opioid products during my time as Governor, and I will closely follow this case as it proceeds.”
