Senator Hassan Statement on NH Supreme Court Advisory Opinion on HB 1264

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today on the New Hampshire Supreme Court’s advisory opinion about House Bill 1264, which would disenfranchise college students in New Hampshire:

“Voting is the most fundamental right of our democracy, and our democracy only flourishes when we bring all voices to the table. We should do everything that we can to ensure that all Granite Staters, including college students, are able to vote and encouraged to vote. I am disappointed in the New Hampshire’s Supreme Court’s advisory opinion about this bill, which would potentially disenfranchise thousands of Granite Staters and effectively create a virtual poll tax to access the ballot, and I urge Governor Sununu to stick to his word and veto this partisan attempt at voter suppression.”
