Senator Hassan Statement on President-Elect Biden's Announcement to Nominate Alejandro Mayorkas as DHS Secretary

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after President-elect Joe Biden announced today that he will nominate Alejandro Mayorkas to be the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security:

"The Department of Homeland Security plays a key role in keeping our country safe, secure, and free, and I am pleased that President-elect Biden has put forward a nominee with extensive homeland security and management experience, including through his previous service at the Department. I look forward to meeting with Mr. Mayorkas to discuss the national security challenges that he will face if confirmed -- including foreign and domestic terrorism and cyber threats -- and how we can work together on a bipartisan basis to confront them."
