WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement after President-elect Joe Biden announced today that he will nominate Janet Yellen to be the next Secretary for the United States Department of the Treasury.
“As former chair of the Federal Reserve and Council of Economic Advisors, Janet Yellen is exceedingly qualified to lead the Treasury Department’s efforts to get our economy back on track amid this unprecedented pandemic. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I look forward to working on a bipartisan basis with the Treasury Department to help protect and create jobs, support small businesses, and grow our 21st century innovation economy. Furthermore, I applaud President-elect Biden for this historic decision to appoint the first woman to serve as Treasury Secretary, a long-overdue step that speaks to the President-elect’s commitment to building a team with diverse perspectives to help expand opportunity for all Americans.”
