WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after President Donald Trump tweeted that he was ending negotiations on an additional COVID-19 relief package until after the election:
“It is the height of irresponsibility for the President to refuse to negotiate on another COVID-19 relief package until after the election. Granite Staters and small businesses need additional COVID-19 relief now. By waiting until after the election to negotiate an additional COVID-19 package, the President is knowingly making a decision that will result in more small businesses closing and placing more Americans at risk of financial hardship. This callous decision just goes to show that the President’s priorities are not aligned with the American people’s. I am calling on President Trump to reverse this decision and work with Democrats to pass a package that will meet the needs of Granite Staters and all Americans during this unprecedented public health and economic challenge.”
