WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan today released a statement following President Trump’s decision to notify the international community that the United States plans to officially withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement on November 4, 2020. Senator Hassan today also joined her colleagues in introducing a new resolution that calls for the United States to remain in the Paris Climate Agreement.
“The President’s decision to move ahead with withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement threatens the long-term health and security of our people, our economy, and our planet. We need immediate and cooperative action across the globe to protect future generations from the worst impacts of climate change, which the President is making more difficult.
“President Trump’s decision is out of step with the American people, including environmental and business leaders, who agree that staying in the Paris Climate Agreement will boost our economy and spur innovation in the clean energy industry. I joined my colleagues today in again calling on the Administration to remain in the Paris Climate Agreement, and I will continue fighting to re-establish America’s global leadership in combating the existential threat posed by climate change.”
