WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after President Trump made comments that he will declare the opioid crisis a national emergency:
“I look forward to seeing more details about the President’s declaration of a national emergency and what new power and resources it will bring to our efforts to combat the heroin, fentanyl, and opioid crisis that is devastating communities in New Hampshire and across America. I continue to call on the Trump Administration to drop any efforts to slash Medicaid and end our bipartisan Medicaid expansion program, which would severely hinder our efforts to stem the tide of deadly addiction. And I urge the President to consider other recommendations from his opioid commission that I have long supported including boosting treatment capacity, strengthening prescriber education, and increasing access to medication assisted treatment. I remain ready to work with anyone who is serious about taking real, quick action to match the urgency of this crisis.”
