Senator Hassan Statement on President Trump’s Decision to Freeze Pay For Federal Workers at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Pease Air National Guard Base

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement in response to a letter President Trump sent to Congress yesterday stating that he will freeze pay for civilian federal employees, which would include civilian workers at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Pease Air National Guard Base in New Hampshire.

“President Trump’s announcement that he will freeze pay for civilian federal employees, including many of the men and women who keep our nation safe at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Pease Air National Guard Base, reinforces how backward his priorities are. President Trump added more than $1 trillion to the national deficit to give massive tax breaks to corporate special interests and the ultra-wealthy, and now he is demanding that federal workers – including civilian workers at the Shipyard and Pease, FBI agents, and food and drug inspectors – pay the cost. I will work with members of both parties to push the President to undo this harmful decision.”
