Senator Hassan Statement on Removal of Tariffs that Harmed Local Newspapers

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement today regarding the International Trade Commission’s (ITC) decision to remove tariffs on Canadian groundwood paper imports, a measure that will bring relief to local newspapers in New Hampshire and across the country:

“I am pleased that this action will end the tariffs on Canadian newsprint, which had been harming the bottom lines of our local papers and threatening the viability of the free press.”

Senator Hassan was a co-sponsor of the Protecting Rational Incentives in Newsprint Trade Act of 2018 (PRINT Act) that would have delayed the import tax on uncoated groundwood paper, also known as newsprint.
