Senator Hassan Statement on Roe v. Wade Anniversary

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statement on the 51st anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision:

“51 years ago, the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade, which enshrined a woman’s freedom to make her own health care decisions into law. For decades, this anniversary was a cause of celebration, and a moment to reflect on how far our country has come in ensuring that women are free to chart their own future. But since the Dobbs decision – when the Supreme Court overturned Roe and snatched freedom away from half the population – this anniversary has become a painful reminder that, for the first time in American history, our daughters are less free than their mothers were at their age. Even more alarmingly, we know that these attacks on a woman’s freedom have not stopped; anti-choice partisan politicians have made clear that they will not stop until abortion is banned everywhere and in all cases. Make no mistake: this is the most dangerous moment for the freedom and health of American women in my lifetime.

“As we mark this solemn anniversary, we cannot give up in our fight to ensure that women are free and equal citizens in our democracy. The world’s greatest democracy – and the Live Free or Die State – must always be a place where our daughters have the same freedoms as everyone else.”
