Senator Hassan Statement on Senate Confirmation of Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, released the following statement after the Senate voted on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis today to confirm Janet Yellen as the Secretary of the Department of Treasury:

“As this pandemic continues to devastate our economy and make it harder for Granite State families to get by, we must have someone leading the Treasury Department who is equipped to tackle some of the greatest economic challenges that our country has faced in decades. Janet Yellen is the right person for the job. I was glad to have the opportunity to speak with her about her plans to rebuild our economy and expand economic opportunity to help get people back to work. I look forward to working with Secretary Yellen and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to bolster workforce development, support small businesses, and grow our innovation economy.”

Senator Hassan is working to expand economic opportunity for all Americans and recently questioned Janet Yellen as a member the Senate Finance Committee. Additionally, the COVID-19 relief package that was recently signed into law includes bipartisan legislation introduced by Senator Hassan to allow eligible small employers to both participate in the Paycheck Protection Program and also claim the Employee Retention Tax Credit to help keep workers on payroll and pay for their health care coverage. Previously, small employers could not participate in both of these programs. Senator Hassan has also introduced bipartisan legislation to support research and development (R&D) investments by innovative small businesses and startups.
