WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement on Senate passage of the bipartisan Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act:
“It is critical that we support community banks and credit unions – who were not responsible for the economic crisis – in order to help expand access to credit for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and middle class families, particularly in rural areas. This bill is the result of a bipartisan compromise that protects the reforms on the biggest banks and Wall Street while addressing unintentional consequences that had impacted smaller community banks and credit unions, affecting their capacity to lend to entrepreneurs and small businesses. This bipartisan bill also includes a provision to ensure that veterans’ credit scores don’t suffer because of delays in payments from the Choice Program, as well as a measure that I cosponsored to protect veterans from predatory home lending. I will keep working with members of both parties to support New Hampshire entrepreneurs and small businesses while continuing to hold Wall Street and bad actors in the financial industry accountable.”
