WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today after the Trump Administration moved forward with plans to expand junk health insurance plans, which will further destabilize health insurance markets and undermine important consumer protections, including for people with pre-existing conditions:
“Once again, the Trump Administration is moving forward with efforts that will increase health care costs and undermine critical consumer protections – including protections for people with pre-existing conditions such as cancer, diabetes, or asthma. Doctors, nurses, hospitals, and patients have spoken out because they know how dangerous these junk health insurance plans would be for the health and well-being of our people. I join them in opposing this harmful rule, and will keep fighting back against the Trump Administration’s repeated attacks on our health care system that are raising health care costs and hurting the American people.”
Senator Hassan sent a letter in April with Senator Shaheen and 45 other colleagues calling on the Trump administration to halt expansion of these junk health insurance plans. In addition, Senator Hassan cosponsored the Fair Care Act to block the rule and guarantee protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
