Senator Hassan Statement on Trump Administration’s Latest Action to Raise Health Care Costs and Rip Away Coverage from Millions of Americans

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today after President Trump’s Department of Justice urged the courts in a new legal filing to strike down the entire Affordable Care Act. Previously, the Department of Justice had advocated for striking down portions of the law, including the protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

“Once again, the Trump Administration is working to raise health care costs and rip away coverage from millions of Americans. If the Trump Administration gets its way in this court case, it would raise health care costs and allow insurance companies to deny coverage for people with pre-existing conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or cancer. This decision would also fully repeal Medicaid expansion, which experts have called the single most important tool we have in the fight against substance misuse.

“The Trump Administration cannot claim to be serious about lowering the cost of prescription drugs while simultaneously taking actions that would dramatically raise health care costs on Americans, including the costs of life-saving medications. I will continue standing up against this harmful decision, and I urge all Granite Staters and Americans to make clear to President Trump and his Administration what is at stake for them and their families.”
