Senator Hassan Statement on Trump Administration’s Latest Effort to Restrict Women’s Access to Health Care

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement on reports that the Trump Administration plans to announce its latest effort to restrict women’s access to health care. The Administration’s reported changes to the Title X program, the only federal grant program solely dedicated to family planning and related preventive services, would undermine women’s access to critical health services and block women from getting care at places like Planned Parenthood.

Earlier this week, Senator Hassan led more than 200 members of Congress in writing to the Administration in opposition of the rule.

“Women deserve and have the right to seek and receive comprehensive medical advice and options from their health providers – without federal government interference. This backward policy is just the latest effort from the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans to restrict women’s access to critical health services and undermines women’s constitutionally protected rights,” Senator Hassan said. “These drastic restrictions would block women from getting care at places like Planned Parenthood, prevent women from receiving comprehensive information about their reproductive health, and effectively dismantle the Title X program that has provided family planning and preventative health services for more than 40 years. We cannot allow this to happen, and I will continue to fight against these attempts to roll back access to reproductive health services.”
