WASHINGTON – President Biden and Chinese President Xi yesterday announced an agreement in which China will take additional steps to combat fentanyl trafficking. Last month, Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and a bipartisan group of Senators visited China and pushed President Xi to take this action. Senator Hassan issued the following statement on the newly announced U.S.-China fentanyl agreement:
“This new agreement is one important step forward in preventing transnational criminal organizations from producing the fentanyl that is devastating communities in my state of New Hampshire and across the country. During our bipartisan delegation’s trip to China, we repeatedly stressed the need for China to take more aggressive action to crack down on the precursor chemicals used to produce fentanyl, and I am glad that our advocacy seems to have had an impact. The work now continues to keep up the pressure on China to ensure that this deal is fully enforced.”
