Senator Hassan Statement on Veterans Choice Reauthorization

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after the Senate passed a bill reauthorizing the Veterans Choice program:

“This bipartisan reauthorization of the Veterans Choice program will help prevent an immediate funding crisis for the program while also building on my efforts to address the chronic workforces shortages at the Department of Veterans Affairs. I am pleased that this bill continues to fund the Choice program, which was designed to help veterans such as those facing long wait times or who live in rural parts of New Hampshire who would have to travel long distances for care. However, it is also critical that we address concerns that constituents have raised with my office, including apparent delays in scheduling, services, and payments. New Hampshire veterans face unique challenges given our lack of a full-service VA hospital, and I will continue working across party lines to ensure that our veterans get the care they need and have earned.”

The bill extending the Veterans Choice program includes a number of provisions from the bipartisan Better Workforce for Veterans Act that Senator Hassan helped introduce with Senators Jon Tester (D-MT) and Jerry Moran (R-KS).
