Senator Hassan Statement on Voting to Expand Sanctions Against Russia and Iran

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after voting in favor of bipartisan legislation that enhances and expands sanctions against Russia and Iran. The bipartisan measure passed the Senate by a vote of 98-2:

“We must hold Russia accountable for its shameless attacks on the foundation of our democracy. This bipartisan legislation is an important step to help deter Russia and other actors from further attempts to interfere in our elections, and to prevent the Trump Administration from taking unilateral actions to unwind current sanctions against Russia. It is also critical that we hold Iran accountable for its support for terrorism, human rights abuses, and ballistic missile program, and this legislation takes steps to do just that without compromising our efforts to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear bomb and undermining the Iran nuclear deal.”
