NEW CASTLE –Senator Maggie Hassan visited the U.S. Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor today, where she boarded a 29-foot response boat to tour the area and highlighted the important role the Coast Guard plays in the state and country’s national security.

“The brave men and women of the Coast Guard work hard every single day to keep Granite Staters and Americans safe,” Senator Hassan said. “They play a crucial role in combating the flow of drugs entering into our country and into New Hampshire, while also protecting us from terrorist threats. I will continue working to ensure that the Coast Guard has the resources it needs to keep our state and country safe, secure, and free.”

Senator Hassan is a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Coast Guard. Senator Hassan has spoken out about the negative impact that potential budget cuts to the Coast Guard would have on the Coast Guard’s role in drug interdiction and counterterrorism efforts.
