WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan today voted to approve bipartisan legislation to reauthorize, strengthen, and support the U.S. Coast Guard.
“The brave men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard work tirelessly to keep Americans and Granite Staters safe, and I am particularly grateful for their efforts to stem the flow of illegal drugs and counter terrorist threats,” Senator Hassan said. “I was pleased to vote for this bipartisan reauthorization that will supply the Coast Guard with the tools and resources they need to effectively carry out vital missions that keep our state and country safe, secure, and free.”
Senator Hassan is a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Coast Guard. Senator Hassan recently visited the U.S. Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor, where she highlighted the important role the Coast Guard plays in protecting national security. Senator Hassan has also spoken out about the negative impact that potential budget cuts to the Coast Guard would have on the Coast Guard’s role in drug interdiction and counterterrorism efforts.
