Senator Hassan Votes to Pass Bipartisan Budget Agreement

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statement after the Senate voted on a bipartisan basis to approve the budget agreement:

“This bipartisan budget agreement paves the way to invest in critical priorities for Granite Staters—helping to expand economic opportunity for hard-working families, support innovative businesses, combat the opioid crisis, and keep our nation safe. I am glad that the President and Congressional leadership were able to reach an agreement to help make another shutdown less likely, and I am relieved that this bill is now on its way to the President’s desk.”

As a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), and Ranking Member of its subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management, Senator Hassan is focused on fiscal responsibility. Earlier this year, Senators Hassan and James Lankford (R-OK) introduced bipartisan legislation to prevent government shutdowns by providing automatic funding to keep the government open and keep Members of Congress and leaders in the Administration in Washington until they reach a funding agreement. Last week, HSGAC voted to approve Hassan-backed measures to strengthen government accountability and save taxpayer dollars.
