Senators Hassan and Ernst Discuss their Bipartisan Green Alert Legislation on Fox News

WASHINGTON – In case you missed it, Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) were on Fox and Friends this morning, discussing the bipartisan Green Alert Act that they recently introduced to help states implement “Green Alert” systems to locate at-risk veterans when they go missing so that they can receive appropriate care.  

The Green Alert Act of 2019 would establish a federal committee to study and develop best practices and provide technical assistance to states to implement Green Alert systems. A Green Alert is a system that would be used to alert law enforcement and the public in the event of an at-risk veteran’s disappearance, similar to the AMBER Alert system for children and the Silver Alert system for older Americans. Last year, Wisconsin became the first state to establish a Green Alert system. The Iowa State Senate recently unanimously passed legislation to establish a Green Alert system.
