Senators Shaheen and Hassan Announce $5.8 Million in Grants from HUD for Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control in New Hampshire

WASHINGTON – Today, Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded New Hampshire $5.8 million in grants for lead-based paint hazard control. The City of Nashua and the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority will each receive $2.9 million in federal funding to keep families and their children safe from lead-based paint and other home health and safety hazards.

“New Hampshire families deserve the peace of mind of knowing that their homes are free of hazardous materials, including lead-based paint,” said Senator Shaheen. “These new grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development will help communities ensure that residents have safe, healthy homes where their families can thrive.”

“It is critical that we protect New Hampshire children and families from lead-based paint and other hazards commonly found in the home,” said Senator Hassan. “These funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will help New Hampshire ensure that our families and children are living in healthy spaces.”

HUD’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes promotes local efforts to eliminate dangerous lead paint and other housing-related health hazards from lower income homes; encourages private sector investment in lead hazard control; supports cutting edge research on methods for assessing and controlling housing-related health and safety hazards; and educates the public about the dangers of hazards in the home.
