Senators Shaheen, Hassan, and Congresswoman Shea-Porter Announce Grant to Improve Dover’s Transportation Infrastructure With Innovative Technologies

WASHINGTON – Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter today announced a grant of more than $649,000 to improve Dover’s transportation infrastructure through the use of innovative technologies. The City of Dover will implement a number of Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPMs), which will help improve efficiency, safety, air quality, and mobility for area residents by improving data collection at the Central Avenue traffic stops. The grant will also go toward improving highway efficiency by integrating the New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s (NHDOT) Traffic Management Center (TMC) in Concord to Dover’s traffic control system. The goal is to improve traffic conditions by seamlessly diverting cars to Dover’s parallel street network in case of an incident on Spaulding Turnpike, thus decreasing the time commuters are stuck in traffic.

“Granite Staters deserve safe, reliable, and efficient transportation infrastructure – our roads, rails and bridges are used by New Hampshire families every day,” said Senator Shaheen. “I’m very pleased to see substantial federal investments in Dover’s transportation technology, which will improve the daily lives of residents traveling to work, school and throughout the community. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for resources to improve transportation throughout our state.”

“A strong, modern, and safe transportation infrastructure system is critical to the strength of our communities and our economy,” Senator Hassan said. “I am pleased to announce this grant for the City of Dover, which will go toward improving and upgrading Dover’s traffic signals, and help reduce traffic time for commuters by allowing for a more integrated traffic response effort between Concord and Dover.”

“This grant for the City of Dover will enhance traffic flow and reduce commute times by using advanced and innovative technologies to improve the city’s automated traffic signals,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. “Funding these efforts is a critical role of the Federal government, and I am pleased that Dover will be receiving this grant.”
