WASHINGTON – Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Maggie Hassan, and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter today applauded the Trump Administration for heeding their call to approve a disaster declaration for New Hampshire for the severe storm and flooding that occurred in Rockingham County from March 2 to March 8, 2018. The Trump Administration also approved a disaster declaration for New Hampshire in Carroll, Rockingham, and Strafford Counties, which were impacted by the severe winter snowstorm from March 13-14, 2018.
Under the disaster declaration, federal funding is available to the State of New Hampshire, eligible local governments in the designated counties, and some private, non-profit organizations, to support emergency work, and repair or replacement of facilities that were impacted by the storms and flooding.
“A disaster declaration goes a long way towards helping communities rebuild after devastation, and I’m very pleased that New Hampshire was granted these Major Disaster Declarations for Rockingham, Carroll, and Strafford Counties to aid in their ongoing efforts,” said Senator Shaheen. “This will provide critical funding for infrastructure, and I will continue to advocate for federal support to ensure that our communities have an expedited recovery plan and are prepared for the future.”
“I am pleased that the Trump Administration heeded our request for a disaster declaration for Rockingham County following the severe storm and flooding that occurred in March.” Senator Hassan said. “I also commend the Trump Administration for granting a disaster declaration for Rockingham, Carroll, and Strafford Counties for the damage they endured from another severe winter snowstorm. Under this declaration, state and local officials will receive important federal assistance to support recovery efforts, and I urge the Trump Administration to get this funding out the door as quickly as possible.”
“Responding to natural disasters is a fundamental responsibility of the federal government,” said Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter. “I am pleased that FEMA disaster relief funds will be headed to New Hampshire to help our communities recover from the devastating March nor’easter storms that caused tremendous damage across our state.”
The New Hampshire Congressional Delegation wrote a letter of support for a Major Disaster for the State of New Hampshire for the damage caused by strong winds, large storm surge, and coastal flooding that occurred on March 2-8, 2018.
